Burlington Court: Connecting solar export to customer payments

For Burlington Court Care Home in Northampton, exporting solar electricity involves an ongoing financial process as well as a commercial contract. Open Power receives the site’s export data, administers export invoicing and makes payments to the customer.

At a glance

  • Since 2024 - Working with Open Power on commercial solar export
  • Export payments managed - Open Power handles customer payments under the agreement
  • Clear billing records - Export quantities and payment calculations shown by period
  • Active in 2026 - Ongoing support under the current export contract

The requirement: Managing the income from exported electricity

Burlington Court’s export agreement needed ongoing financial administration throughout its term. Electricity exported by the site had to be accounted for against defined billing periods, with the corresponding amounts calculated and paid to the customer. Open Power took on that work as part of its export service.

What Open Power handles

  • Receiving export data Open Power receives the site’s export data as part of the ongoing arrangement.
  • Administering export invoices The care home’s 2025 invoices set out the electricity exported during each billing period and the corresponding amount calculated under the agreement. For example, the first-quarter invoice lists January, February and March separately. Each entry connects an export quantity to its applicable rate and value, providing a record the customer can refer back to.
  • Making customer payments Open Power makes payments to Burlington Court under the export agreement, carrying its role through to the customer’s receipt of export earnings.

The value: Responsibility for the financial administration

For Burlington Court, the value is having an export specialist responsible for the ongoing financial administration, including paying the customer. The care home has an established point of contact whose involvement extends to the amounts it receives from selling its exported electricity.

The invoices support that service with a clear record: the accounts team can identify the period covered and see how the amount due was calculated. This combines practical administration with visibility of the customer’s export earnings.

The outcome: Ongoing service under the current agreement

The relationship established in 2024 continues under an active 2026 agreement. Periodic invoices document the work undertaken during 2025, and customer payments and data receipt remain ongoing under the current service.
